Rhuemmy Update

Let me first say I love this Rheumatologist!  She is awesome!  Not just because she is taking me off prednisone (BONUS!) but she actually cares about me!  I would highly recommend her!

Ok anywho... back to my appointment.  So Dr. Bishnoi is taking me down 12.5mg of prednisone for a month and then down to 10mg!  WOOHOO! She went through my blood work and said everything looked great especially my cholesterol!  My SLE markers were high but that is normal for an autoimmune disease.  She took me through each of the markers and explained it to me. 

So I asked her about getting the handicap tag and she said that if the neurologist won't sign it, she will.  I know I will only use it if it is absolutely necessary.  So I will have to go to Secretary of State and get the necessary papers and have one of the doctor's sign it off for me.

Another thing...on Monday, I am having a test done on my lungs to check for abnormalities (really, me?).  Plus with all my blood work being groovy, it is good to have a base picture of my lungs now in case, down the road YEARS FROM NOW.... my lupus goes nuts.  I will definitely post about that experience!  I wish I did for my echocardiogram.  That was really cool too!!  But I digress....

Well, that's that doctor visit for today.  Friday, Zeke gets his booster shot and then Monday I go in for my lung test.  Oh the fun! :)

OK here's the poop on the Dermi today.  I saw Dr. Henderson and she is a resident at HF.  I went to see a dermi because of the previous post of my sores on my scalp.   She looked me over and was very concerned with the one I have on top of my scalp.  It's deep and she thought it could turn into a cancerous problem.  I did tell her that is where my previous dermi did the punch biopsy.  Dr. H brought in another dr for a second opinion and that doctor stated that if that wound wasn't closed up by stitches and I have lupus, the wound might not have closed up and healed properly.  So in essence, it made Dr. H feel better that it was the area of the punch biopsy.   So today, as I had a hunch, I was injected with cortisone.  That is something I never will forget but she was a lot better than my previous dermi.  She was gentle and gave me some breaks.  I had injections done to the side areas and my crater on top.  The cortisone ...

Interesting Tidbit

Another successful class. Kelly worked our upper bodies and some stablizing techniques. I don't feel as sore as I did last week. My arms are a bit achy but nothing like last week. We did, of course, lunges and squats and we did some combo type exercises. For example, we lunge forward, bicep curl, shoulder press, brought it down, and pushed back up from the lunge. I definitely will be doing that one at home. I know my core is weak as well, another thing I need to work on. After class, though, I asked Kelly about my upper arms. As most of you know I have DLE (discoid Lupus ~ skin variety of lupus) and it "eats" away the fat. Sounds like a great thing but it leaves "dents". I have it really bad on the back of my arms. So I asked her about that giving her a little bit about why I am asking. She did say that toning up the upper arm, especially the tricep, may smooth it out but not get rid of it entirely. Getting ready for radiation

As noted in my previous post, I am starting radiation Wednesday (7/23).  Weird to start in the middle of the week but I guess that is where they had a time slot opening. I understand the concept of radiation to stop cancer cells from dividing and just destroying them.  In that process, I may encounter some side effects.  First my radiation treatment will be administered to my pelvic region.  My cancer, from what Dr. Sevac told me, is right at the end of where my uterus and vagina meet.  Apparently the cancer did sneak out and was starting to effect the rest of my female organs.  Anyways, here I am...waiting for my first day of treatment to start. From what I have heard is that radiation side effects usually start on the 2nd or 3rd week.  This I can understand with having Lupus for 10 years, some meds take time to 'kick in'. My thoughts before all this, I am a bit scared but that is because it is unknown to me.  To be quite honest, I really don...
